Slow down zoom when close to the board

I sometimes need to measure a width of a trace, and I would like to bring the trace close to fill half of the screen, so I could place the markers precisely. But when the board is closer, the zooming (with mouse wheel) gets quicker, and with a very close view even a slight movement of the wheel makes the board pass behind the camera. This makes positioning and zooming very hard (sometimes impossible) with close views.
Could you make the zooming to slow down when the board is closer to the camera? Preferably depending on the remaining distance from the camera (the slower the closer it is). This way the precision of movement would be gradually increased when needed. Perhaps the zooming speed should fall down to zero when the board is at zero distance from the camera. This would prevent the board from going behind, but I doubt anyone needs that.

Yes, I will think about how to do it in a gentle and non-disturbing way.
For now, use Ctrl to reduce the speed and Shift to increase the speed. Ctrl/Shift also applies to the numeric keypad.

Didn't know about that. Thank you
