BOM to IPC356

Post by Alan-M »

Does anyone know what part of an IPC file contains the BOM section. We run an old PCB design package (Vutrax) that I would like to reformat the BOM from to create the components from with the IPC import. Hopefully it is an ASCII file.

IPC356 contains more (and different) information than BOM. It is describing pads/pins type, the geometrical position of pads, the connected net, and grouping pads into components, via RefID.
It would be possible to extract the IPC-356 from the PCB file format.
But, please see: http://www.vutrax.co.uk/latest.htm
Vutrax 13.4a (2010) should be able to export the IPC-356

Just for reference, see the geometry data from IPC-356:

Latest version of Vutrax is 14.2a.
Downloaded it and ran my existing file through it, to generate an IPC356 file.

ZofZ loads everything in just fine, a couple of footprints need swapping out, but then I had to do that with our other PCB package so no sweat there.

Thanks for the support from Rafal.
